How do you fit modern living into a 17th-century barn without spoiling its character? With fun and ingenuity! This country kitchen is packed full of clever features: pull-out racks are disguised behind false pilasters, a wine cooler tucks away in a crooked corner and there is even a secret cupboard hidden away in, well, a secret location! The mixed material island is the centerpiece of the room, with a dropped ceiling to echo its shape and bring the extractor within reach of the hob. It also includes the largest wooden worktop we’ve ever built. At 2m in diameter, it took two of us to lift it into position!
Approximate price £35,000 (excluding appliances and granite worktops).
